| I looked at many synthetic oils and lubricants for my RV and I think that Amsoil
is the best. I replaced the engine oil and differential lube for better
mileage. I have found out that Amsoil is one of the best. They are a small oil company, with superior products. They test their oil and publish the results. They use independent labs to get the results so it a real test of how good they are. I had over 11,000 miles on the Valvoline synthetic oil so I replaced it with Amsoil 5w30 Signature full synthetic oil along with a new Ea024 oil filter from Amsoil. Those filters are the best with 98% filtering. Amsoil synthetic oil are so superior you can run extended drain intervals. Your regular auto can go 25,000 miles or one year what ever comes first! Even though the Amsoil costs more, your costs are lower since you aren't changing your oil at 3000 mile increments. Another good way to reduce running friction is synthetic oil for the rear end differential. The grease that is used is 90 weight or more. Slipperier oil would definitely help. The gains may be small, but they add up as the miles go by. By doing this simple step you will save every time you fill up. The differential lube is next on my list. This is something I can do myself since there is crawl space under the motor home. You should drive the motor home for a while to warm up the lube. That's important since gear lube is really thick and will drain slowly. The differential (rear end) is a good choice here since you may only have to do it once because of their extended lube capability. Although it costs a lot you may want to put synthetic oil in your automatic transmission. It's a no brainer for a manual transmission since not much synthetic grease is needed, but for an automatic tranny you have to take it to a transmission shop for them to flush the tranny, replace the filter and refill it with synthetic oil. The savings in fuel expenses will help as well as knowing that you have protected your transmission from wear. That's priceless. Think about it, if the transmission goes out on the road you would have a very expensive repair. One thing is extended mile oil changes. Up to 25,000 miles between oil changes are possible. Even though the oil costs more, it is less expensive to run the synthetic oil. If you divide out the 25000 by 3000 that equals 8 oil changes! If you do 8 oil changes per year for $20.00 each for oil and filter , that's $160.00. One oil change for my RV was about $90.00 (I bought extra oil for top ups) I think that is a good deal! Besides, I only had to crawl under my RV ONCE to change the oil, not 8 times.
